its practical specimens and Instructions to schools in preparation for the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (<a with shell intact).<br class=\"yoast-text-mark\" \/>&gt;<strong>Specimen H<\/strong> &#8211; Test tube containing 3 ml of water (placed on a test tube rack).<br class=\"yoast-text-mark\" \/>&gt;<strong>Specimen J<\/strong> &#8211; Longitudinal section of boiled egg (with shell).<\/p>\n<p><strong>NOTE<\/strong>:<br \/>\n(i) All specimens can be provided as group specimens for <strong>five<\/strong> (5) to <strong>ten<\/strong> (10) candidates.<br \/>\n(ii) All specimens in each group must carry individual labels (e.g. <strong>A<\/strong>, <strong>B<\/strong>, <strong>C<\/strong>, <strong>D<\/strong>, <strong>E<\/strong>, <strong>F, G, H,<\/strong> and <b>J<\/b>).<\/p>\n<p>(b) It is essential that <strong>each<\/strong> candidate should be provided with the following materials:<\/p>\n<p>(i) a hand lens\/magnifying lens.<br \/>\n(ii) beaker.<br \/>\n(iii) plastic syringe (without needle).<br \/>\n(iv) sodium hydroxide.<br \/>\n(v) 1% copper sulphate solution.<br \/>\n(vi) scalpel.<br \/>\n(vii) test tube.<br \/>\n(viii) test tube rack.<br \/>\n(ix) Bunsen burner.<\/p>\n<h5>REPORT FORM<\/h5>\n<ol>\n<li>Report Forms are provided separately on which you are required to:<br \/>\n(a) supply the necessary information about the specimens.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>(b) report on any difficulty in the conduct of the examination.<\/p>\n<p>(c) report any particular difficulty experienced by any candidate during the conduct of the examination, especially if the examiner would be unable to discover these from the scripts.<\/p>\n<p>(d) carry out and record experimental observations as directed in the Report Form.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>You <strong>must<\/strong> enclose a completed Report Form in <strong>each<\/strong> envelope of below does not reach the candidates <strong>either<\/strong> directly <strong>or<\/strong> indirectly before the examination.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>In addition to the fittings and reagents normally found in a chemistry laboratory, the following apparatus and materials will be required by <strong>each<\/strong> candidate.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>(a) <strong>one<\/strong> Burette of 50.0cm<sup>3<\/sup> of capacity.<br \/>\n(b) <strong>one<\/strong> pipette, <strong>either<\/strong> 20.0cm<sup>3<\/sup> or 25.0cm<sup>3<\/sup> (All candidates at one center <strong>must<\/strong> use pipettes of the same volume. These should be clean and free from grease).<br \/>\n(c) the usual apparatus for titration.<br \/>\n(d) the usual apparatus and reagents for qualitative work including the following with all reagents <strong>appropriately<\/strong> labeled:<\/p>\n<p>(i) dilute sodium hydroxide solution.<br \/>\n(ii) dilute hydrochloric acid.<br \/>\n(iii) dilute trioxonitrate (V) acid.<br \/>\n(iv) silver trioxonitrate (V) solution.<br \/>\n(v) aqueous barium chloride.<br \/>\n(vi) aqueous ammonia.<br \/>\n(vii) lime water.<br \/>\n(viii) red and blue litmus paper.<br \/>\n(ix) dilute tetraoxosulphate (VI) acid.<br \/>\n(x) Fehling&#8217;s solution A &amp; B.<br \/>\n(e) spatula.<br \/>\n(f) filtration apparatus.<br \/>\n(g) <strong>one<\/strong> beaker.<br \/>\n(h) <strong>one<\/strong> boiling tube.<br \/>\n(i) <strong>four<\/strong> test tubes.<br \/>\n(j) methyl orange as indicator.<br \/>\n(k) glass rod.<br \/>\n(l) wash bottle containing distilled\/deionized water.<br \/>\n(m) burning splint.<br \/>\n(n) watch glass.<br \/>\n(o) Bunsen burner\/source of heat.<br \/>\n(p) droppers.<br \/>\n(q) mathematical table\/calculator.<br \/>\n(r) phenolphthalein indicator.<\/p>\n<h5>ADDITIONAL INSTRUCTIONS<\/h5>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Each<\/strong> candidate should be supplied with the following, where \u2018n\u2019 is the candidiate\u2019s serial number.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>(a) 150 cm\u00b3 of a solution of HCl in a corked flask or bottle labelled \u2018<strong>An<\/strong>\u2019. These should all be the same containing 8.6 cm\u00b3 of concentrated HCl per dm\u00b3 of solution.<\/p>\n<p>(b) 150 cm\u00b3 of NaHCO\u2083 solution in a corked flask or bottle labelled \u2018<strong>Bn<\/strong>\u2019. These should all be the same containing 8.0 g of NaHCO\u2083 per dm\u00b3 of solution.<\/p>\n<p>(c) One spatulaful of 1:1 uniform mixture of copper (II) tetraoxosulphate (VI) and glucose in a specimen bottle labelled \u2018<strong>Cn<\/strong>\u2019. This <strong>must<\/strong> be the same for all candidates.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>In <strong>all<\/strong> cases, more materials may be issued if required.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>The actual concentrations of <strong>A <\/strong>and<strong> B <\/strong>must be stated on the Supervisor&#8217;s Report Form. The candidates will assume that the concentrations are <strong>exactly<\/strong> as stated in the question paper.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>It should be noted that schools are <strong>not<\/strong> allowed to amend the information provided on the question paper or substitute any substance\/solution for those specified in these Instructions.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h5>ARRANGEMENT AND SERIAL NUMBERS OF CANDIDATES<\/h5>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<p>The laboratory places should be numbered serially, and the candidates should be allotted these places <strong>strictly<\/strong> in the order of their <strong>index numbers<\/strong>. The number of every specimen supplied to <strong>each<\/strong> candidate should be the <strong>same<\/strong> as his or her <strong>serial number<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>If a candidate is absent, his or her <strong>serial number<\/strong> should <strong>not<\/strong> be allotted to another candidate.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>If the candidates are divided into a number of sets, the <strong>serial numbers<\/strong> should be continued through the sets, so that no <strong>serial number<\/strong> is repeated.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>At the beginning of the examination, it should be ensured that the candidates record their <strong>serial numbers<\/strong> as well as their <strong>index numbers<\/strong> on the front page of their answer booklets, as they will be marked according to their <strong>serial numbers<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h5>SUPERVISOR&#8217;s REPORT<\/h5>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<p>Supervisor&#8217;s Report Forms are provided separately. You <strong>must<\/strong> enclose a completed Report Form in <strong>each<\/strong> envelope of scripts.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>The chemistry teacher should carry out the titrations required of the candidates in question <strong>1<\/strong>. The titration figures should be up to <strong>at least one<\/strong> decimal place and should be carefully verified. Unless this is done at the same time as the candidates own titrations, wide variations could set in and the candidates may be unavoidably penalized.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Any particular difficulties experienced by any candidate should be reported especially if the Examiner would be unable to discover these from the scripts.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h5>CAUTION STATEMENT ON THE TOXICITY OF CHEMICALS<\/h5>\n<ol>\n<li>It is important to remind candidates that chemicals could be dangerous when they are not handled properly.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Before the practical examination starts, read out the following statements to candidates:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Even though care has been taken to select the chemicals you will work with, you are being reminded that chemicals could be dangerous. It is therefore important that you handle them carefully.<\/p>\n<p>Call the attention of your invigilator as soon as you start having any unusual sensation. Wash your mouth thoroughly with plenty of water, should any chemical get into it. Any candidate, therefore, who <strong>cannot<\/strong> get on with the experiment after spending 15 minutes on it, may come to me and ask for help.&#8217;<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>The Physics Teacher should be allowed to give a hint to a candidate who is unable to proceed with the experiment<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Following regulations <strong>must<\/strong> be strictly adhered to.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>(a) <strong>No<\/strong> hint should be announced to the candidates as a whole.<\/p>\n<p>(b) A candidate who is unable to proceed and requires assistance <strong>must<\/strong> come up to you and state his or her difficulty.
